RSV = MIA

We've pretty much gone MIA since Layla has been so sick. For over a week now my heart has been breaking for her. The day after her 6 month appt she started to come down with a cold. She was having a hard time breathing and then pretty soon she started having high fevers. We're talking over 104 degrees! It felt like my baby girl was burning up. We were giving her Tylenol and it wasn't responding well at all. It just kept getting higher. By Wednesday of last week we were back in the Dr's office. That's when we found out she had RSV. My poor baby! The Dr said it sounded like Annabelle had it too, but she was on the recovering end of it and doing quite well. Well, until that night. She started crying at 4 in the morning that her ears hurt. So Thursday I took Annabelle to our clinic in Drummond and sure enough, she had double ear infections. Layla had just gotten over hers, then got RSV and now Annabelle has ear infections. Great. At this point I was spending every night sleeping on the couch holding Layla so that she could sleep. The only way she could rest at all was if I was holding her laying across me. I literally spent entire days holding her in that position. No shower, not even changing out of pajamas, Joshua having to bring me food while I sat on the cough with Layla. She was getting so bad and her fevers so high that she hardly opened her eyes for a couple of days. She would cry if I had to put her down or when she was uncomfortable, but not even really look awake. This is what she looked like most of the time....
Talk about heartbreaking! We were so worried for her. We were able to keep her fevers down a little with Motrin, but she was having to take it around the clock and sometimes Tylenol in between just to keep it under 104 degrees. We would call in the night when it would hit like 104.9 and the triage nurses would tell us something different every time. I was getting frustrated and finally decided she needed to go back in yesterday. Her Dr is out of town so we saw a different one and he said her lungs sound a lot better, not like RSV anymore, but now she has 2 really badly infected ears. That would explain the ridiculous fevers! We started antibiotics for her yesterday and still on Motrin every 6 hours, but she seems to be improving. This morning she sat up and played with Annabelle. She even did some of her cute little lizard like moves with her tongue. I haven't been so excited to see something in a long time! We went literally days without an even slight smile, so this is exciting!
Despite hardly eating for days she has only lost a little over 1/2 pound so that was good news. Now if we can get her to stop coughing so hard she throws up I will feel better about things. And I won't know what to do when some day (hopefully soon) I can start sleeping in a bed all night. But until then I am thoroughly enjoying Layla being awake and looking alive again. The intense backache from trying to sleep sitting up on the couch for a week can heal later, I just want to play with my baby now!

Poor little girl! I'm glad she's starting to feel better! And I'm sad I didn't get to see you guys when I was up there. I brought my roommate and another friend home, and my roommate was feeling pretty sick the whole time. So I didn't want to come expose you to that. Next time, we'll see each other. :)

poor thing! that sounds awful, i think that's the worst part of being a parent is seeing your kids sick and knowing you can only do so much for them. hope things keep getting better.
