Bug Bites

It's all making sense now. Last year when I was in the hospital the day after I had Layla, Josh called me up and said that Annabelle's ankle was all swollen and he couldn't get a shoe on her. I kind of rolled my eyes but did as Josh asked and called and make an appt for her at the Dr. It didn't seem to bother her at all so it obviously wasn't an injury. They said maybe she got stung by a bee or something like that, but she was fine. Now fast forward to last night.

I was at Achievement Days at the church and Annabelle was playing outside at my parents house. They noticed that the mosquitoes didn't seem to be bothering Annabelle at all. She woke up this morning, ate breakfast, and then had a bath. As soon as she got out and started getting dressed I began to notice bites all over her. Her arms and legs are just bit up! And this is what her knee looks like.....

The pictures don't really do it justice, but her right knee is all swollen and has this hard knot on the side where she must have been bit. I'm sure this is exactly what happened with her ankle last year. For whatever reason the bites on her joints really puff up like that. Apparently mosquitoes don't seem to bother my dad at all but when he does get bit, they look just like Annabelle's do. And he also is SUPER allergic to bee stings. So now I am worried. Annabelle has never been stung by a bee, but I'm worried she could have a bad reaction to one. I'm thinking I should get an EpiPen to keep around just in case.

Yikes! Poor girl. I think it would be a good idea to get an epi pen... I know they're by Rx.. I wonder if they can test to see if she's allergic to bee stings?

I think there is a way to test for bee stings, just take her to an allergist. Tell her/him about the mosquito bite reaction (bring pictures if it isn't fresh) and about your family (Dad) history with bee stings. Say you want tested just to make sure. And they'll do it. Try to find an allergist that specializes in children. The tests are a bit painful.
