Fall Foliage Vacation

Josh and I were lucky enough to get to spend a week seeing the fall foliage in New England. We drove to Utah and left the girls at Josh's parents where they were well taken care of and, of course, spoiled rotten! We flew into Albany NY and as we started our journey into Vermont we saw that a lot of the leaves hadn't turned yet. The first week of October is when the colors are supposed to be most vibrant, but things are a little late this year. As we got further into the trip more had turned and it was beautiful! We have many stories from the trip, but I won't bore you with them. I'll just share some pictures.

Robert Frost's house in Shaftsbury VT

I loved the doors on this barn we saw in VT. We drove primarily on the back roads and highways and there were cool barns everywhere. I had to take a picture of this one because I have this vision of barn style sliding doors on the pantry in my dream house that would look very similar to these.
Josh wanted a picture by the signs of all the states we went to. I think New York is the only one we missed, but we really only flew in and out of Albany and didn't spend any time there.
The view of Burlington, VT from the cruise we took on Lake Champlain
You can't go to VT without seeing some covered bridges

This was my favorite tree of the entire trip. It was so bright! I was surprised to see it right after the sign welcoming you to Maine. I thought the foliage would be best in Vermont and New Hampshire but we really loved Maine.

We went to see the foliage, but I was surprised how much I loved the coast! We walked along and picked up shells for the girls. I was super excited to find some sea glass. I'll definitely be making necklaces out of some of the bigger pieces!
The awesome infinity edge pool at the inn right on the ocean in Maine
Josh walking barefoot and packing his man boots...I just love this picture!

Don't you love the classic east coast beach houses in the background? They were everywhere along the coast, just like in the pictures. :)

This was the best we could do for a Massachusetts sign.
Longest covered bridge in VT
Our last stop before heading to the airport was the monument site at the birthplace of Joseph Smith. The grounds are absolutely beautiful.

As you turn off the road and head in:
The upper shaft part is 38 1/2 feet tall....1 foot for every year of his life.
View from the monument.
This is the actual original front step from the Smith home.
And the actual hearthstone from the house he was born in. The only lived there until he was 3, I think, so as a baby he would have spent lots of time near the fire to be warm or crawling around his mother's feet while she stoked the fire. It's amazing to think that his little hands and feet touched that actual stone.
It was a perfect way to end the trip. And we could hardly wait to get back to our girls! I had visions of Layla calling out and running over when she saw me, but instead she reached for grandma! But don't worry, she has made up for it by having to be right next to me for the entire last week.

Looks SUPER fun! Especially Maine. I've always wanted to go there. Is that the first time you've been to a beach?
