Steroids

Let me just say that anyone who has to have a child on steroids for long periods of time is my hero. Annabelle is taking Dexamethasone for 4 days to try and reduce the inflammation in her throat. 24 hours into the treatment my sweet girl turned into a beast. There is just no other way to explain it!

I'm sure it is helping, but her throat is basically sun burnt so she isn't going to be swallowing for a while anyway. However, there is hope that this treatment now is going to help prevent a stricture in her throat later, so I shouldn't complain. Apparently it is fairly common to have scar tissue build up from the inflammation and close things off 3-4 months after finishing radiation. We certainly don't want that to happen, so for the next few days I'll be taking frequent "bathroom breaks" (that's where I tell Annabelle I'm going when I need to get out of the room and take some deep breaths).

She is wearing her Sleeping Beauty princess dress today so I am preparing a sign for her door to put up while she is sleeping that reads...

Princess on Steroids
You Wake Her, You Take Her!

And I mean it!

Oh Sally, I love you both! Only you could make me laugh when the whole cancer thing makes me so mad!! See I wasn't kidding about the steroids making a person mean but I will take her when I get there!!

Dallin was on steroids for 6 months after his attack of hemolytic anemia. He took prednisilone, so I don't know if it has the same side effects. I only remember his incredible appetite, swollen face, and extreme energy. I was glad when he was finally weaned off.

I hope the meds help. It hurts to see how much she has to go through. We pray for you and her all the time.

LOVE the sign!!!
